Jack N’ Hill: As Good As It Gets?

Entertaining? Absolutely. Cut through the political clutter? Definitely. A credible messenger? I’m not so sure.

Probably a good idea they didn’t go with the line from As Good As It Gets: “Secretary: ‘How do you write women so well?’ Melvin Udall (played by Jack Nicholson): ‘I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.'”

  1. They started the “Few Good Men” “nothing sexier” quote, but didn’t finish the scene. See this clip, about three minutes in.

They left out the best part!

Weirdly enough, AFGM was on the box last night so I got to watch the entire excellent movie from beginning to end.

The use of that clip tells me the HRC campaign never saw this commercial before it went out; they would have never sanctioned it, knowing what the very next line of dialogue is.

And, now that the image is in my head, I’m not sure I can get it out. Maybe a powerdrill…

If they approved it, they had to have know that next line was there. Didn’t they??? That big honkin’ executional detail aside, I’m not sure I understand the overall strategy of taking a guy associated with maniacal, misogynistic and neurotic characters, and then having him endorse…in character? It does bring much needed energy to a previously plain vanilla pitch, but I’m not so sure it’s the right kind of energy. Oprah v. Jack. We’ll see. Overall, Billary have had a much more lively week than the rest of February.
