Sara Jane Coleman

Admittedly, it can be difficult to keep track of Senator Norm Coleman’s makeovers.
Is he a Clinton Democrat or a Bush Republican? Is he a mud slinging member of the RNC’s infamous “truth squad” that taunts Democratic candidates across the nation, or, as he now claims, a uniter who reaches across the aisle to bring Democrats and Republicans together? Is he a radical leftist war protester or a radical conservative war defender?
But as far as I know, Minnesota’s senior Senator has never been mistaken for a female terrorist. Until now…

What in the world?
Boggles the mind. I can’t imagine how this could have happened. Maybe the oddest news media error I’ve ever seen.
Oops! Goes up there on the list of media screw-ups with the John Derus picture in the Strib. Having said that, I doubt I would have caught the mistake in real-time sitting on my couch. It’s only thanks to the wonder of technology - a DVR, YouTube and - of course - the SRC that made it possible for us to laugh about it over and over and over.
Of course, it does suggest some really fun attack ads…
VOG: “Norm Coleman. U.S. Senator, Mayor. Devoted family man. Conservative voice for Minnesota….or is he?
“Turns out Norm Coleman is actually a cross-dressing bombmaker who lived a life of lies as a St. Paul housewife and subversive member of his PTA.
“Is that really who we want to represent Minnesota values in the U.S. Senate?”
Do a little morphing work on the video, add the all-important cite: KSTP-TV, March 23, 2008 - and we’re off to the races! I bet I could start a 527 and raise $1 million for ads with just this pitch alone.

This is how urban myths start.
Hmm…. The ultimate testimony to the investigative genius and dispassionately objective reporting of the Hubbard media empire?
Yes, this blooper by a station owned by a family of Republican backers doesn’t neatly fit into the grand “liberal media” conspiracy theory. Imagine the screech if this error had happened at a station owned by a liberal.
